Lesson 4 - SIRS Reacher/Discoverer

1. Armadillos - discuss results.
There were not a lot of current (2013) articles.  Of course armadillo information probably does not change much over time.  The article I chose was Awesome Armadillos (2003).  It had pictures and all reading levels.
 2. "Database Features" I selected Sweden.  It gave the official name , population, government type, agriculture, climate, and currency etc... Major historical event - Did you know?  Sweden has not been involved in any wars for nearly 200 years!
"Maps of the World"  - Chose Germany - gave administrative borders, major roadways, rail etc.
The Ties of Trade map would be great for a history class - could display old ships w/ map routes.

Database Features:
I chose Science Fair - Junk Drawer -  This will be great for the Summer Reading Program! We will be using it.
Focus on physics -  case of the water walker

REASEARCHER:
1. Binge Drinking - pros/cons section -Should college campus implement campus wide restrictions of alcohol to prevent binge drinking.
-global impact
terms to know
2. Pathfinders favorite topic: Language Arts
gave research ideas
how to analyze poetry
Literary criticism and interpretation

Left side listed
Favorite courses
Literature and Journalism
History and Languages
Writing and Reading help

Over all this section would be helpful to many teachers - I hope they are taking advantage of it!

  1. Neat discoveries in SIRS Discoverer and SIRS Issues Researcher! I did not know about Sweden. The facts in the Country Studies are great. You noted the articles not being current--articles are sorted by relevance by default. You can change the sort to date and see many articles from 2013.

    Thanks for your post! Julie
